Henry Kramer

Henry Kramer 1000 956 Welcome to Kingston Chamber Music Festival | Kingston Chamber Music Festival

We’re looking forward to our summer festival! Over the next few weeks, we’ll introduce each artist performing in our 36th season.

Pianist Henry Kramer will play on Friday, July 26 and Sunday, July 28.

Praised by The Cleveland Classical Review for his “astonishingly confident technique” and The New York Times for “thrilling [and] triumphant” performances, Kramer is developing a reputation as a musician of rare sensitivity who combines stylish programming with insightful and exuberant interpretations. In 2016, he garnered international recognition with a Second Prize win in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. Most recently, he was awarded a 2019 Avery Fisher Career Grant by Lincoln Center – one of the most coveted honors bestowed on young American soloists. This is his first time performing for KCMF.

Among other highlights, on Friday, July 26, Kramer will perform the only solo piece of the regular festival programming: George Gershwin’s Three Preludes for Solo Piano. First performed by the composer at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York in 1926, each prelude is a dazzling illustration of how early-20th-century American classical music was influenced by jazz.
